Hello

I’ve experienced some profound healing in my own life. When I had Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma at 22, my period stopped for several months. My body couldn’t create the flow because it was so depleted from chemo and so many other treatments. One day I meditated on my abdomen and imagined a point of light buzzing there. I could feel it vibrating. Hours later that same day, my period came back, and I realized that I initiated my menstrual cycle to start again.

That was the first time that I understood the power of using the mind to elicit tangible change in the body. I was disconnected from the symbiotic relationship between mind and body - I didn’t give myself enough credit for the miracles we’re capable of!

I would never wish for anyone to go through cancer, but I wouldn’t take it out of my life if I could. At just 22 years old, it showed me what was important to me and how I wanted to live the rest of my life - with meaning, clarity, aliveness, and passion. I now have such a reverence, humility, and appreciation for my incredible body.

Trying to conceive at 39 years old, I was introduced to the way Western medicine tends to prioritize interventions over the body’s natural ability to get pregnant. My “numbers were low” and I “was old” so the doctor wanted me to go to IVF after 1 office visit since statistics said I didn’t have good chances. I felt in my gut my body could conceive naturally, so I turned instead to educate myself and trust my body. I wanted to try naturally before turning to medical interventions and synthetic hormones. I cleansed my blood with Chinese herbs, improved the health of my menstrual cycle, and learned my body’s language around ovulation. If you listen, it tells you when you’re fertile. I couldn’t believe I was only learning this at almost 40 years old! After almost 1 year of trying without success, once I really focused my energy on a healthy womb and understanding of its cycles and language, I got pregnant within 6 weeks. I now have a healthy and delicious 18 month old!

Giving birth was another lesson in humility. I planned on having an unmedicated home birth with a midwife. But my water starting leaking a bit early and since I wasn’t in labor within 48 hours, had no choice but to go to the hospital to be induced. Here started the domino effect of medical interventions + drugs that I was exactly trying to avoid. Miraculously, I narrowly avoided a C-section and achieved a glorious vaginal birth, but my baby was born barely hanging on to life and had to be revived. Doctors swooped in and acted fast, bringing his Apgar score from 1 to 9 within minutes. He was whizzed into consciousness and with big open eyes and a gaping open mouth, looked at me and his dad and all around the room, in disbelief that he had landed into his body. Death and birth never felt so close together. I then got extreme preeclampsia and had another round of bedrest and medication, and my baby was off to the nicu for 1 week before we could bring him home. The lesson I learned is that everything which I judge as “bad” or as “other,” I eventually come to terms that “I am that too” (Ta Tvam Asi). That I can’t separate myself from any part of life or person or role. The Western medical system, which I had judged as beneath me, actually save mine and my baby’s life that day. As much as I wanted to avoid those interventions, I needed them, and was humbly on my knees in gratitude that they were there for me.

All this to say that as much as I emphasize Eastern holistic health and believe that this should be our first approach to achieving wellness, Western medicine has it’s place and I’ve eaten and integrated my judgements around it. My belief is now to use the right tool when you need it. But my approach will always be to prevent disease accumulation rather than trying to remove it.

Practicing reiki on my mom with Parkinson’s Disease really helped me understand the depth of energy work. In sessions with her, the tremors sometimes stop completely, and she comes up with rosy cheeks like arising from a dream state. I’m not trying to stop the tremors - in fact, I’m just meeting them, holding them without judgment or reprimand. Reiki invites the body into a parasympathetic nervous system - this is where the body can deeply heal itself. It knows what to do, we just need to get out of the way and trust it. We really don’t spend enough time in this state with the busy and stressful lives we lead.

These practices are like shining a flashlight into the dark corners of your self and gently holding whatever arises without judgement.

If you’ve read this far, there is something here for you and I’d love to help you find it.

What it’s like to work with me?

Whether you decide to start with Ayurveda or Reiki, I hold an incredibly gentle and safe space for whatever needs to arise. So often we just need that space so what needs to come up can do just that.

Ayurveda is a great place to start if you’re feeling any symptoms that we can relate to the health of the body - from digestive imbalances to menstrual, fertility, skin, stress, sleep, etc.

Reiki is a great place to go when you don’t have a clue what the cause is and are in need of a psycho-spiritual- energetic shift or emotional letting go.

And of course, they work so beautifully together.

What I can (and can’t) do

As an Ayurvedic Lifestyle Coach, I cannot diagnose disease or prescribe drugs or medications. I do not replace your allopathic or Western doctors, and I encourage you to continue working with them regularly. Ayurveda and Reiki are supplements to your medical team and fills in the gaps that Western medicine often leaves behind.
